Costa de Almeria

With many of the coves on this Mediterranean coast accessible only by foot, it’s perhaps the easiest area to find a beach to yourself. And it’s Spain’s sunniest region too. To the east of Almeria city with its castle is the rugged coast of the Cabo de Gata with its sparse population and infrequent scatter of villages including the popular San Jose. This is a lovely area to explore. There has been some coastal development, but inland the arid conditions have protected the area from development.

West of Almeria the coast is more highly developed and there’s a thriving package holiday market, but at its most westerly point is the often overlooked old fishing port of Adra, a charming town with plenty of architectural interest.
